Jülich’s End-of-Year Lecture Evening took place on
Thursday, 18 November 2021,
and was live-streamed.
Jülich’s scientists conduct research, develop ideas, and drive innovation to benefit tomorrow’s society. At this year’s end-of-year lecture evening, Forschungszentrum Jülich presented six excellent scientists from five countries. In the spirit of this year’s motto “Young. Insights. Impact”, they provided insights into their creative, exciting, and pioneering work:
Gabriela Figueroa Miranda and Viviana Rincón Montes are developing a malaria biosensor to market maturity that will help treat patients faster and more effectively.
Johannes Laube uses weather balloons to send measuring instruments into the little researched stratosphere, where he collects data on its composition. Scarlet Stadtler’s research project focuses on how many different environmental and Earth system data collected worldwide can be analysed and exploited using artificial intelligence.
Sarah Genon and Kausthub R. Patil use machine learning in the field of neuroscience in a variety of ways to gain a better understanding of the organization of the human brain and its relationship with cognition and behaviour and to determine the causes of neurodegenerative and psychiatric diseases.
These six outstanding scientists represent a new generation of researchers. They gain scientific insights that have an impact as they drive social progress and help to create new products, processes, and services that will improve people’s lives in the long term while at the same time conserving natural resources.
